Não é o caso de desprezar a maravilhosa Miami Beach e seus 21 quilômetros de areia e agito que nunca serão descartados quando um roteiro envolver a Flórida. A questão agora, porém, é reconhecer que aquele pedacinho do litoral quente americano vem ganhando contornos que vão além do mar azul e do livre comércio. Esses pontos ainda fazem a cabeça de muita gente, impossível negar, e pode também fazer parte da sua viagem romântica, por que não? O que queremos mostrar é a possibilidade de um perfeito equilíbrio entre a paixão e o amor.
A já conhecida Miami Beach é pura paixão, com o mar cada vez mais azul e as ruas completamente lotadas, dia e noite. Intensa. Desembarque direto nesse agito, escolhendo um dos muitos hotéis que povoam a Collin Avenue ou a deliciosa Ocean Drive. Assim, de um lado estará a badalação, com bares, boates, restaurantes e a famosa Lincoln Road – onde é possível também comprar muito –, e do outro a praia!
São muitas as opções de boa hospedagem. O já consagrado The Setai fica no coração de South Beach e encanta com o seu design elegante e estiloso, inspirado na arquitetura asiática, além de possuir um delicioso Spa. Para os casais mais modernos, a novidade do momento é apostar em dois hotéis localizados deliciosamente lado a lado: o Surfcomber, que possui ar tropical e jovem, desde os seus atendentes até o happy hour, e o recém-inaugurado SLS, com a sua luxuosa piscina e o nightbar, onde vem acontecendo as melhores noitadas (ou o início delas) da cidade. Nesse último, funciona também o restaurante do premiado chef José Andrés – se possível, faça a reserva antes mesmo de desembarcar.
O outro lado de Miami
Bronzeado em dia e paixão colocada à prova, é hora de se entregar ao amor e conhecer o outro lado de Miami, literalmente. Apesar de a distância não ser tão grande e nem o táxi muito caro, uma boa ideia é se mudar de vez. Isso porque as opções de hospedagem no continente são cada vez melhores, além de ser um lado da cidade que reúne as mais interessantes opções de restaurantes e passeios quando o assunto não é praia. Andar pelas ruas planejadas, como uma vila cubana em Little Havana, dar um mergulho na linda Venetian Pool, em Coral Gables, ou andar pelos jardins do casarão de Viscaya são programas a dois altamente recomendados.
Como novidade aos que estão retornando a Miami depois de alguns anos, damos ainda mais um motivo para atravessar a baía de Biscayne: um bairro de galpões abandonados funciona, há quase uma década, como o centro das galerias de arte da cidade. É o Wynwood Arts District. Mas não pense que queremos incluir um “programa museu” na sua badalada lua de mel, não! Estamos falando de galerias modernas, divertidas e surpreendentes, uma ao lado da outra, além do projeto Wynwood Walls, que consiste em paredes cobertas por grafite da melhor qualidade.
Caindo no gosto dos mais antenados, o bairro acabou atraindo também uma clientela sofisticada e, assim, as mais refinadas grifes internacionais, além de agito noturno e ótima gastronomia. Os restaurantes imperdíveis, na minha opinião, são o superconveniente Wynwood Kitchen & Bar e o simplesmente delicioso e descolado Oak Tavern Miami. Entre os mais disputados também estão o Sra. Martinez, da chef Michelle Bernstein; o Michael’s Genuine Food, cuja filosofia é servir os melhores ingredientes locais; e o Fratelli Lyon, italiano anexo à loja de design Driade, onde todo o mobiliário pode ser adquirido pelos clientes.
Para ir ainda mais além e fazer você se sentir um típico morador de Miami, passar o dia no Village of Merrick Park é uma experiência e tanto. Isso porque, muito além das compras (aliás, definitivamente ali não é o lugar onde você irá encontrar “pechinchas”) trata-se de um centro de estilo de vida de alto prestígio, alojado no belo e histórico bairro de Coral Gables. Inaugurado em 2002, o centro é operado pela Propriedade Geral de Crescimento e se caracteriza por mais de 100 lojas em meio a um cenário tropical e sereno de magnífica folhagem, fontes e esculturas. Para coroar, ali mesmo, em um cantinho no segundo andar, o poderoso Elemis Spa vem oferecendo opções especiais para o casal relaxar a dois.

Depois de tantas novidades, sabe o que também fica evidente na Miami do novo milênio? Com a onda dos Destination Weddings, a cidade se especializou, fazendo do sim à distância uma boa opção para tornar a sua viagem à Flórida ainda mais romântica. Assim, é possível se casar ou renovar os votos dentro de distintos padrões e estilos – seja num altar montado na areia de South Beach, seguido por um jantar à luz de velas, ou alugando um sofisticado salão e recebendo convidados com pompa e circunstância.
Alguns tradicionais hotéis possuem uma equipe que pensa e respira casamento 24 horas por dia, como o Surfcomber, o Intercontinental, o Four Seasons e o Mayfair Hotel & Spa. Este último, localizado estrategicamente dentro de Coconut Grove, recebe cerca de 70 enlaces ao ano.

Sobre o que as mulheres procuram ao escolher Miami como destino romântico, Steven tem a resposta na ponta da língua: “Elas querem um cenário único, mas que também consiga abranger suas expectativas tradicionais”.

Lokal: dentro do bairro de Coconut Grove, o restaurante Lokal oferece hambúrgueres de excelente qualidade com produtos naturais de origem controlada e selecionada cuidadosamente, e tem uma boa oferta de cervejas artesanais locais. Além de sua preocupação com o cardápio, o restaurante se destaca por seu respeito ao meio-ambiente, usando somente energias sustentáveis.
Cheen Huaye: originário da Península de Yucatán, o chef Marco Velasquez decidiu levar o melhor da cozinha do sul do México para Miami.
O restaurante Cheen Huaye, que significa “Somente Aqui” em Maia, tem em seu cardápio pratos e sabores que vêm passando de geração em geração, deliciando os paladares com sabores tradicionais.
Toro Toro: o restaurante Toro Toro fica no andar térreo do Intercontinental de Miami, comandado pelo premiado chef Richard Sandoval, encanta pela perfeita mistura entre sabores marcantes da culinária latina com um lado muito sofisticado da gastronomia. Também são imperdíveis a seleção de coquetéis feita pela equipe expert.
Lincoln Road: em plena South Beach, a Lincoln Road é uma rua de pedestre muito charmosa e conquistadora, com suas lojas, cafés e restaurantes, além da galeria de arte de Romero Britto – uma atração à parte para os brasileiros. Fica pertinho da praia, o que garante uma localização privilegiada aos turistas.
Little Havana: sob a forte presença da influência latina, formou-se em Miami o bairro de Little Havana, que começa na Calle Ocho. É um pedacinho de Cuba nos Estados Unidos, com todas as delícias peculiares ao país de Fidel. Tem calçada da fama para personalidades cubanas, além de bares e restaurantes típicos que proporcionam uma outra viagem… Diretamente para Havana!

Beyond Miami Beach
Visiting Miami this millennium can be surprising to the extent that it’s now getting space in, for example, a honeymoon magazine. Forget once and for all any notions that involve only the beach, partying and shopping. Let yourself fall in love with a new Miami!
This is not a case of neglecting the wonderful Miami Beach and its 21km of sand and excitement; things that should never be omitted from a script involving Florida. The issue now is to recognize that this hot little section of American coastline has been adding contours other than blue seas and retail therapy. However, it’s impossible to deny that these elements are still stuck in the heads of many people and so can also form a part of your romantic trip, and why not? What we want to demonstrate here is the possibility of a perfect balance between passion and love.
The Miami Beach you perhaps know already, or have heard about, is pure passion with its white sand, ever bluer sea and the streets packed streets both day and night. Intense! So, if a chronological suggestion is permitted (like in novelas, first comes the passion…), how about starting the trip here? Landing straight in the thick of it, choosing one of the many hotels that line Collin Avenue or those located on the delightful Ocean Drive, with its lovely art deco architecture. So, on one side is the hype with bars, nightclubs, restaurants and the famous Lincoln Road – where you can also do lots of shopping – and on the other, the beach!
There are many choices of excellent accommodation. The acclaimed Setai sits in the heart of South Beach and delights with its sleek and elegant style inspired by Asian architecture, besides also having a delightful Spa. For the more contemporary couple, the current sensation is choosing between two hotels that are conveniently located next to each other: the Surfcomber has a youthful and tropical atmosphere with its happy hour that usually gathers a crowd more attuned to South Beach, and the newly-opened SLS with its luxurious pool and night bar which offers one of the best nights out (or the beginning of) in the city. Also, in the latter’s restaurant is award-winning chef José Andrés – if possible, make a reservation even before disembarking.
The other side of Miami
Tanning during the day and having put passion to the test, it’s now time to surrender to love and experience the other side of Miami, literally. Although the distance is not so great and taxis aren’t too expensive, a good idea is to change hotel. This is because the hosting options are getting better, besides it being a part of town that offers the most interesting dining options and tours when the subject is not the beach. In Little Havana, stroll through the streets laid out like a Cuban village, take a dip in the beautiful Venetian Pool in Coral Gables, or walk through the gardens of the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens; two programs which are highly recommended. As a novelty for those who are returning to Miami after a few years, we give you even more reason to cross Biscayne Bay: a neighborhood of abandoned warehouses that have served for almost a decade as the center of the city’s art galleries. It’s the Wynwood Arts District. But do not assume we want to include a museum program in your glorious honeymoon. No way! We’re talking about modern galleries that are fun and surprising, all situated next to each other, and in addition to the Wynwood Walls project which consists of walls covered with high-end graffiti. Fitting in with the tastes of the savvy, the district also attracts a sophisticated clientele and thus some of the finest international brands, as well as night life and great food. The essential restaurants, in my opinion, are the very convenient Wynwood Kitchen & Bar and the simply delicious and relaxed Oak Tavern Miami. Others include Sra. Martinez with its chef Michelle Bernstein, Michael’s Genuine Food, whose philosophy is to serve the finest local ingredients, and Fratelli Lyon, an Italian eatery in the annex of the Driade design shop, where all the furniture can be purchased by customers.
To go even further and make you feel a like typical Miami resident, spending the day at the Village of Merrick Park is truly an experience. That’s because, beyond the shopping (incidentally, this is not the place where you will find bargains!), it is a center of upscale lifestyle housed in the beautiful and historic neighborhood in Coral Gables. Opened in 2002, the center is operated by General Growth Properties and is characterized by more than 100 stores in the middle of a serene tropical setting with magnificent foliage, fountains and sculptures. To round things off nicely, there, in a corner on the second floor, the powerful Elemis Spa offers special options for the couple to relax together. The waiting room is an invitation for the delivery of total well-being where, with appropriate lighting, champagne and a selection of breads and cheeses, you and your love can wait for the hour-long massage or other treatment of your choice. And to confirm that your honeymoon in Miami turns passion into love, get to know the restaurant at the hotel where you are staying and you will see that there is no need to venture outside to see the most exciting aspects of the city: these are the gastronomic names of the moment in Miami.

Some traditional hotels have a dedicated team that lives and breathes weddings 24 hours-a-day, such as the Surfcomber, The Intercontinental, Four Seasons and the Mayfair Hotel & Spa. The latter, strategically located in Coconut Grove, receives about 70 events per year. According to Steven Bumpus, Director of Catering and Conference at the Mayfair, one of the differences of this hotel is that the bride and groom have many options right there: “We cover all religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and we offer three different spaces for marriage: the upper terrace beside the pool, the Palm Terrace, with lofty ceilings and central glass dome, and the classic Crystal Ballroom which can be decorated to any style the couple desire.”
As to what women are looking for when choosing Miami as a romantic destination, Steven has the answer on the tip of the tongue: “They want a unique setting, but one that also encompass their traditional expectations.”

A sophisticated Japanese restaurant, Zuma surprises the visitor’s palate by mixing traditional dishes with innovative creations. Situated inside the Epic Hotel in the heart of Miami, Zama also has branches in Hong Kong, London, Istanbul and Dubai.
Lokal
Within the Coconut Grove neighborhood, the Lokar restaurant offers excellent quality burgers made from carefully selected products of natural origin and has a good range of local microbrews. In addition to its attention to detail with the menu, the restaurant stands out for its respect for the environment, using only sustainable energy.
Cheen Huaye
Originating in the Yucatan Peninsula, chef Marco Velasquez has decided to bring the best of South Mexican cuisine to Miami. Cheen Huaye, which means “Only Here” in Mayan, offers dishes and flavors which have been handed down from generation to generation and delight the palate with traditional flavors.
Toro Toro
The Toro Toro restaurant, on the ground floor of the Intercontinental Miami and led by award-winning chef Richard Sandoval, enchants its guests by blending the exceptional flavors of Latin cuisine with a very sophisticated gastronomy. There is also an unmissable selection of cocktails made by the expert staff.
Lincoln Road
At the heart of South Beach, Lincoln Road is a very charming pedestrian street that commands some charming shops, cafes and restaurants, in addition to the Romero Britto art gallery – an attraction itself for Brazilians. It is close to the beach which ensures a prime location for tourists.
Little Havana
The neighborhood of Little Havana, which begins on Calle Ocho, has developed from a strong Latin influence. It’s a little piece of Cuba in the United States, with all the delights peculiar to the country of Fidel. It has a sidewalk Hall of Fame of Cuban personalities, bars and typical restaurants that provide a whole other vacation… Straight to Havana!
